Professor Neal Hettinger found it a challenge to find a graphic design book that would be understandable and remembered by students, professionals, and marketers.

When affordable artificial intelligence generators became available to graphic designers, it became virtually impossible to find a knowledgeable teaching book.

Neal is the author Of Modern Graphic Design With Artificial Intelligence-AI. Based on his experience and education, he wanted to explain the creative process of visual design. The book connects the software, including artificial intelligence generators, to design solutions.

He has written a graphic design book that explains the creative process of visual design to students and connects the software, including artificial intelligence generators, to create design solutions. Professor Hettinger truly enjoys teaching students how to see and understand the art of graphic design.

While he was a managing partner at The Lead Pencil Advertising and Design Firm in Los Angeles, Neal decided to move his family to the middle of the United States. In Oklahoma City, he started his own graphic design firm that specializes in graphic marketing, visual websites, UX software, and UI workflow platforms.

His client list has included Nissan Motors®, Universal Studios, Paramount Pictures,  Academy Awards®, Pioneer Electronics, and because of his martial arts background he even helped design products. Neal designed for the UFC®, adidas®, and Century Martial Arts Supplies. Publications like The New York Times have quoted him, and Neal has written articles for various print magazines like Layers, as well as numerous online journals and websites.

Neal Hettinger’s academic background includes a Master of Arts degree in Mass Communications and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Graphic Arts, with a minor in English. His intention was to teach, but a professor gave some insightful advice: “Acquire experience—then teach. To teach now is to pass on what your professors taught you.” His expertise grew by working at design firms and advertising agencies in Los Angeles, Nashville, Oklahoma City, and Birmingham.

Neal began his teaching career as an adjunct at Oklahoma City’s Community College, where he received the Outstanding Adjunct Professor award. He has also been a professor at the Oklahoma State University Institute of Technology. Neal embraces technology and teaches it as an additional tool for a creative soul.

As a professor, it was a challenge to find a graphic design textbook that serves as a worthwhile resource. To create the class, professors must read multiple publications to teach fundamental industry terms, techniques, tricks, and the rules of digital design in a way that students will understand and remember. As an experienced graphic artist and adjunct professor, Professor Hettinger saw the need for a graphic design textbook that is more than an explanation of the rules and techniques.
